FAQs
Is it normal to feel nervous about starting therapy?
Absolutely! It is entirely normal to feel nervous about starting therapy. Many people experience a mix of emotions, including anxiety, uncertainty, and anticipation when considering or beginning therapy. I will guide you through the process and support you to feel more at ease as we build a therapeutic relationship.
How do I know you are the right therapist for me?
I strongly encourage you to browse through my website to see if I may be a good fit for what you are looking for. If you sense that I am a good fit, you may set up a complimentary 15-minute initial consultation with me. The therapeutic relationship is a crucial factor in the effectiveness of therapy, and a good fit between you and your therapist is important. This is absolutely a priority of mine for you to feel comfortable to discuss challenging topics. It's not uncommon for individuals to find that they don't connect with or feel comfortable with a particular therapist, I encourage for us to work together to explore this if any issues arise.
What is the confidentiality policy?
Confidentiality in therapy is a crucial aspect of the therapeutic relationship, and it is generally protected by laws and ethical standards. In California, as in many other places, therapists are bound by laws and professional codes of ethics to maintain the confidentiality of client information. While confidentiality is a fundamental principle, there are limits to it. Therapists are mandated to break confidentiality if they believe there is an imminent risk of harm to the client or others. They may also be required to disclose information if compelled by a court order. Therapists are responsible for keeping accurate and secure records of their sessions with clients. These records are typically protected and can only be disclosed under specific circumstances.
What should I expect for a first appointment?
The first appointment, often referred to as the initial or intake session, is a crucial step in the therapeutic process. It is an opportunity for me to get to know you in a casual manner. Introduction and expectations of therapy will be reviewed. I may also ask you questions about your background and history. This is also an opportunity for you to ask me questions and get to know me as well. My goal is to create a safe and accepting environment for you to share things that might be difficult to talk about.
Do you take insurance?
No, I do not accept insurance at this time.
Depending on your benefits coverage, your insurance policy may provide some reimbursement. To help, I can provide a monthly superbill that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please check with your insurance for deductible and mental health coverage.
What is your cancellation policy?
To cancel a scheduled therapy session, a minimum of 24 hours in advance of your session is required through the client portal. If prior and timely notification is not given, the credit card on file will be automatically charged the full session fee for the missed session.
